So today (Monday) I had my first lecture it was the first Tourism in Context lecture and Seminar of the semester and before we even started we were being told we would be given two assignments and they would need to be handed in the first week of November .. right then and there I thought about getting up and running for the hills before my head exploded over the amount of work to complete in little over a month! But no I stayed and we completed looking at a booklet detailing each week of this semester and a PowerPoint giving an overdraft of tourism and a chance for us all to voice some opinions... some the less said about the better!
So after the lecture I went out and got some food during our 20 minute break before the first seminar, now let me put into context how large my university is... I get out of breath walking up the stairs at home which is approximately 20 stairs, to get to my seminar class on the 11TH FLOOR I had to walk up about 200 odd stairs as the lifts were packed and it would have been crowded, needless to say will be taking the lift next time!
However in the seminar room there was a very night view of the whole of Birmingham, it was of those 'ohh I can see my house from here' moments.. after being handed the criteria for are first two assignment i called down a bit as they are probably about 1000 words each isn't too bad looking at the overview over what I'll be doing for the next 4 years.
Finding out that the first two of my assignments aren't as gigantic as first thought was not the best thing about my first 'full' day at UCB though, when we first arrived we were told we would shortly be going on a residential trip within the UK but not told when or where. So today we found out that in exactly two weeks we would be boarding a coach for the long journey to Glasgow, Scotland for 3 nights, sadly its not a leisure visit we're going to get information and research for the second assignment (*sigh*).
Anyway now we've kicked off the semester i cant wait to get stuck in and getting on with my other classes and assignments.
